Qualification Summary
To be eligible, an applicant must: Be at least 18 years of age or older for an arduous or hazardous duty position. Be a student who has been accepted for enrollment or is currently enrolled at least half-time in a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) seeking program in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, 2-year or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school. Possess a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 or higher. In order to assess you meet a qualified status for this position and to refer you to the hiring manager, the agency must be able to determine that you meet the qualifications based on completed education, specialized experience, and/or both – please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-XX) of the position to be filled. GS-04 – You must possess six (6) months of general experience and six (6) months of specialized experience. General experience must demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of a Surveying Technician. Specialized experience is technical work which provided the knowledge and skills needed for cadastral surveying equivalent to a GS-3 in the federal service. Examples of specialized experience include work such as: work as an engineering technician, soil conservation technician, construction inspector, or work assisting professional land surveyors in the measurement or determination of distances, elevations, areas, angles, land boundaries, and/or other features of the Earth’s surface, and/or assisting land surveyors in setting monuments. -OR- Education: Have successfully completed two (2) years of study postsecondary education (above high school) which includes at least 12 semester hours of courses in any combination of the following courses: surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of general experience, specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education. GS-05- Have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is technical work which provided the knowledge and skills needed for cadastral surveying. Examples include work such as: work as an engineering technician, soil conservation technician, construction inspector, or work assisting professional land surveyors in the measurement or determination of distances, elevations, areas, angles, land boundaries, and/or other features of the Earth’s surface, and/or assisting land surveyors in setting monuments, and/or serve as a crew member and occasionally crew lead for specific projects. -OR- Education: Have successfully completed a full four (4) year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of surveying, engineering, construction, or industrial technology, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following courses: surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education. You must meet all eligibility and qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: When doing fieldwork is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions, and injuries and discomforts from pests or animals. Employee will adhere to all safety rules. Work Environment: Work requires physical exertion such as bending and walking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous and densely vegetated. Required to lift and carry equipment up to 60 pounds, necessary to efficiently perform the work of the position, and to provide for personal comfort and safety. This can include tools, personal protective equipment, food and water for extended periods of work away from vehicles.
