Qualification Summary
To qualify for a Maintenance Mechanic your resume and supporting documentation must support: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and that you have the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition. Basic Requirement: Must possess valid state driver’s license and be capable of operating government vehicles from ½ ton to 1 ½ ton trucks. Certifications: – EPA Certification for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (Regulation No. 40 CFR, Part 82.161.) – Universal Technician Certification (Regulation No. 40 CFR, Part 82.161; C82.161, (a)1, (a)3) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Effort: Make repairs and installation from ladders, scaffoldings, and platforms and where systems and equipment worked on are in hard-to-reach places. Stands, stoops, bend, knell, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently handles, lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally over 50 pounds. Working Conditions: The incumbent works inside and outside at heights up to 40 feet above the ground as well as under a 30 inch raised floor and is frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, and noise. He is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, scrapes, broken bones, and burns. Must wear protective safety devices, which can be extremely uncomfortable when worn.
