Qualification Summary
Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. WG-06 Screen Out: Must have the ability to perform common maintenance and construction tasks under normal supervision including painting, carpentry, and plumbing repairs. The ability to operate common hand tools and measuring devices of the carpentry or painting trades to perform simple maintenance tasks. The ability to operate a motor vehicle, transport equipment/material to the job site in preparation of work and clean-up after completion of the work assignment. Work may be performed under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating at this level. WG-07 Screen Out: Must have the ability to perform common maintenance and construction tasks under normal supervision including painting, carpentry, and plumbing repairs. The ability to prepare surfaces for painting and prepare coating materials. The ability to measure and cut wood, perform plumbing repairs to maintain toilets, drinking fountains, showers, and caulk and seal elbows and joints. The ability to operate tools and equipment commonly used in the mechanical, carpentry, plumbing, painting and metal working trades such as measuring devices, squares, planes, power-saws, paint sprayers, air compressors, drill presses, power riding mowers and farm-type tractors. The ability to plan jobs by determining the work needed and the materials, parts, supplies and tools needed to accomplish the job. The ability to operate motor vehicles. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating at this level. WG-08 Screen Out: Must have the ability to perform common maintenance and construction tasks under normal supervision. The ability to perform general construction, maintenance and repair to project and public use facilities including pump plants, levees, shop facilities, water supply, toilets, picnic tables, operating equipment, roadways, sidewalks, playground equipment, and shelters. The ability to maintain grounds and buildings, mix and pour concrete, construct wooden forms, perform plumbing repairs to maintain toilets, drinking fountains, showers. The ability to install and repair iron, ceramic and plastic plumbing and fixtures, and caulk and seal elbows and joints. The ability to use small power and hand tools including table saws skill saw, radial arm saw, sander, electric drill, small lathe, arc welder, and gas welder. The ability to read and interpret written instructions, plans, specifications, operation and maintenance manuals. The ability to repair irrigation systems. The ability to plan jobs by determining the work needed and the materials, parts, supplies and tools needed to accomplish the job. The ability to operate motor vehicles. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating at this level. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Screen OutAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Knowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (Theoretical, precise, artistic)Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Work involves considerable standing, stooping, bending, working on ladders or platforms which requires overhead or stretched awkward positions. Lifts and carries items that weigh 50 to 75 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Incumbent is required to operate a motor vehicle on a regular and recurring basis to accomplish field work. Working Conditions: Some work is done inside a shop where worker is subject to cuts from power or hand tools. Approximately 70-75% of time work is performed outside and in close proximity to turbulent water and operating machinery. Subject to slipping on slopes, noise, cold and damp conditions, gas and paint fumes, chemicals, falling from ladders, cuts, strains, sprains, etc. Incumbent may occasionally be exposed to raw sewage. There is danger to fingers, hands and possible loss of hearing. Work must be performed with the use of safety shoes, hard hat, gloves, rain gear, hearing protection devices, respirator mask, chain saw chaps, and life jacket when operating, working or riding in a boat. Incumbent is required to operate a motor vehicle oil a regular and recurring basis to get to and from field work sites.
