Today is Lyricist Shailendra’s Birthday, as well. Shailendra Sahab was born on this day in 1923 and expired on December 14, 1966. Hindi-Urdu Poet and lyricist Shailendra was also a movie producer – he produced the national award-winning Teesri Kasam (1966). He is most famous for his collaborations with Actor-Movie Maker Raj Kapoor, Singer Mukesh and the Music Composer Duo Shankar-Jaikishan and was highly active in the 1950s and 1960s. Since the lyrics he wrote were simple, he is considered to be one of the greatest lyric-writers in Bollywood. I have selected some of my favorite Bollywood songs written by him, for this post.
