To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Education: Applicants must have a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from a school of podiatric medicine accredited by the American Podiatric Medical Association’s Council on Podiatric Medical Education (APMA) at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners (NBPME) or the American Podiatric Medical Licensing Examination (APMLE). In addition, a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice podiatric medicine in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Applicants who meet the basic requirements qualify for GS-11 grade level.
Experience: In addition to meeting the above education and licensure requirements, applicants must have one or more full years of experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, in the practice of podiatry in an office, clinic, or hospital. Qualifying experience may include: Diagnosis and treatment of foot, ankle, and lower leg problems; setting fractures, prescribing physical therapy or drugs, or performing surgery on feet, ankles, or legs; treatment of Achilles tendinitis, ganglia of the feet, diabetic neuropathy, foot ulcers, gout, rheumatoid arthritis; stress fractures, or bacterial, viral, and fungal infections; and/or other experience necessary to perform the duties of the position. Additional Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) Grade Level
In addition to the Basic Requirement for the GS-11 (or equivalent) level, applicants must complete one full year of professional podiatry experience that is equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.
Additional Requirement for the GS-13 (or equivalent) Grade Level:
In addition to the Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) level, applicants must complete a residency program in podiatry or complete one full year of professional podiatry experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level.
Additional Requirements for the GS-14 and above Grade Level:
In addition to the Basic Requirement for the GS-13 (or equivalent) level, applicants must complete one full year of professional podiatry experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level.
GS-15: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of professional experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Performing reconstructive surgery, open fracture reduction and internal fixation and surgical debridement of the foot and ankle, and skill to fabricate, modify, prescribe, fit, and evaluate lower extremity orthotic devices, casts and splints.
Board Eligible or Board Certified by the appropriate Specialty Board is preferred.
Minimum Qualification Statement for hospital Podiatry position:
In addition to one year of professional experience at the next lower grade level, this position requires proof of license and current hospital privileges. The license and current hospital privileges will be utilized in the agency’s credentialing requirements process. Applicant must demonstrate possession of current hospital privileges through a letter of good standing if currently in a hospital-based residency program or through a letter of good standing from the medical staff office where current hospital privileges are held. Applicants must upload this information to be included with this vacancy to meet the minimum qualifications.
Selective Placement Factor: Successful completion of a Foot and Ankle Surgery or Podiatric Medicine and Surgical Residency (PMSR, PM&S-36, PMSR/RRA) or currently enrolled in a one year fellowship program for advanced training in Foot and Ankle Surgery to be completed within 3-6 months. (NOTE: you must attach a copy of your certificate of completion or enrollment)
