Fort Wayne, Ind. – – For 25 years, residents and visitors to Fort Wayne have looked forward to the mid-June celebration of barbecue and music that is Ribfest. This year, Ribfest is slated to run from June 16 to June 19, 2022, making it the perfect way to end Father’s Day Weekend. The event falls roughly one month or slightly less, before the annual Three Rivers Festival. Ribfest also follows some smaller festivals. But its focus on barbecue, not just ribs, makes the festival special to those who have an affinity for meat done on the grill.
Ribfest: eating is just part of the fun
Part of the excitement of Ribfest is seeing the groups who come to compete. That’s right – – the vendors who come to the event are not random, unvetted grill masters. Each group, which tends to have names like Pigfoot, or Big-Boned, is highly decorated from barbecue competitions around the country. The display of winning ribbons can be impressive to see.
If award ribbons and ribs are not enough, music is also important at Ribfest. A variety of hard rocking groups will take the stage at headwaters Park. The rocking starts on Thursday night when Electric Gypsy Experience takes the stage. The group is a Jimi Hendrix Tribute band that has received rave reviews. Friday’s lineup will prove to be a big night for live music fans. Nick Harless and Soulshaker, Mark May, The Ghost Town Blues Band, and modern blues man, Anthony Gomes will round out the night.
Saturday night will also be charged with music. The Ghost Town Blues Band will return, but Set the Hook will kick off the night, and the evening will end with Epic Eagles, a renowned Eagles’ tribute band.
During Ribfest, more than 25 tons of meat is consumed. The event is vying for other festivals for the title of crowd-favorite. Whether attendees have come to the festival for all previous years, or if this is their first time, they will be able to find something that tastes and sounds good at Ribfest.
Entrance to the event free before 5:30. After 5:30, admission is free for children younger than 8; $3 for ages 8 to 17, and $6 for 18 and older. For more information, visit: https://www.bbqribfest.com.
