Majrooh Sultanpuri’s Death Anniversary

Today’s second post is Majrooh Sultanpuri’s Death Anniversary. On this day in 2000 AD, Bollywood and music enthusiasts lost a gem of a lyricist called Majrooh Sultanpuri. Born Asrar ul Hassan Khan on October 1, 1919, Majrooh Sultanpuri was basically an Urdu shayar. He was not interested in joining Bollywood as a lyricist because he thought that the filmdom was below his intellectual level. Producer A R Kardar and Urdu poet-ghazal writer Jigar Muradabadi coaxed Majrooh Sahab into joining the movies. Then, there was no looking back. Majrooh Sahab was one of the greatest lyricists, who wrote some such beautiful songs that he among others created the golden period of Bollywood with his amazing magical combination of words. I have chosen some of my favorite Bollywood songs, written by him; for this post. I hope you like them.
