Today’s fourth post is Phani Mazumdar’s Death Anniversary. Phani Mazumdar was a pioneer director of Indian movies. He began working in the 1930s with the movie director, P C Barua at Calcutta’s (Kolkata now) New Theaters. In 1941, Phani Mazumdar moved to Bombay (Mumbai now) and began working with Bombay Talkies. Some notable Bollywood movies directed by him, include Tamanna (1942), Mohobbat (1943) and Andolan (1951). He also made movies in Punjabi, Magadhi, Maithili and Malay. Noted movie maker, Shakti Samanta, assisted Phani Mazumdar in some of the latter’s movies. I have shared some songs from Phani Mazumdar’s movies as a director and/or writer. I hope you like them.
