Today’s second post is the analysis of the song, Murgine jhooth bola, from the Bollywood movie, Man Mauji (1962). The song has been analyzed on the basis of its context and visualization.

Movie – Man Mauji (1962)

The song, Murgine jhooth bola, was featured in the AVM Productions’ dramedy Man Mauji (1962), produced by A V Meiyappan and directed by Krishnan-Panju. The movie starred Kishore Kumar, Sadhana, Master Sarosh Irani, Baby Devika, Kumari Naaz, etc.

Teenager Raja (Master Sarosh Irani) is a habitual liar and a regular absentee at school. He belongs to a poor family and lies to everyone that he saved a calf from a burning barn. Actually, he has gambled with some money and had won more of it to buy some crackers and sweets for Diwali.

His sister, Lakshmi (Baby Devika) sees through Raja’s lie and sings this song.

Song – Murgine jhooth bola

The lyrics of the song, Murgine jhooth bola, were penned by Rajinder Kishan and the tune was set by Madan Mohan.

The girl sings, “The hen lied and was caught. The goat lied and was caught.”

Video – Murgine jhooth bola

Cinematography is by S Maruthi Rao. The dance choreography is by A K Chopra-Ratan Kumar-K.N. Dandayu Thapani Pillai.

The video opens with Baby Devika coming out of the hut, dancing. Master Sarosh Irani is not far behind. She begins to sing looking at a hen. Both the kids dance together. There are 3 monkeys also with the 2 kids.

The monkeys show the typical Gandhiji’s 3 monkeys’ signs of not watching, listening or saying anything bad. There is a crow, as well as, a sparrow on a tree, nearby. Baby Devika refers to them as well in the song.

The quality of the video is not exactly good, what with some parts missing in the beginning of the video. The song and the video end abruptly as the 2 kids continue to dance together.

Artists

Kamal Barot sang this song for Baby Devika. Master Sarosh Irani is also seen in this movie.

Cultural Influence

There’s no influence of any culture on this song. I loved the beautiful brother-sister bonding in this fabulous song. The song and the artists are good. The video is definitely watchable for the performance of the 2 kids.
