Lata Mangeshkar – the Nightingale of Bollywood

Today’s third post is Lata Mangeshkar – the Nightingale of Bollywood. The Legendary Singer Lata Mangeshkar was hospitalized in a Mumbai hospital ICU, on Saturday after being diagnosed with COVID-19. Her doctor has also informed that she has pneumonia.

Born Hema Mangeshkar in 1929, Lataji has sung more than 1000 Bollywood songs and several songs in 36 Indian and foreign languages. 1989 and 2001 saw her receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and Bharat Ratna. 2007 saw her also receiving the Officer of the Legion of Honor – France’s highest civilian award.

She has also received 3 National Film Awards, 4 Filmfare Awards for Best Female Playback Singer, 2 Filmfare Special Awards and a Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award. Wishing for her speedy recovery, let’s have some of my favorite Bollywood’s b/w songs that she sang in the 1960s.
