Movie – Duniya (1984)

The song, Jhoomti raat jawan, was featured in the Dharma Productions’ action movie Duniya (1984), directed by Ramesh Talwar and produced by Yash Johar. The movie starred Ashok Kumar, Dilip Kumar, Rishi Kapoor, Amrita Singh, Pran, Amrish Puri, etc.

Mohan Kumar (Dilip Kumar) is released from prison and visits an orphanage looking for his son, Ravi, who was taken in after Mohan Kumar was sent to jail 14 years ago. It turns out that the 7-year-old boy disappeared from there within months of admission. Mohan Kumar is frustrated by the irresponsible behavior of the manager and visits his old home, which is in ruins now. He remembers the time he was happy with his wife Sumitra (Saira Banu) and son, several years ago.

Jugal Kishore Ahuja aka J K (Pran), Prakash (Prem Chopra) and Balwant (Amrish Puri), who are responsible for the mess that had happened in Mohan Kumar’s life; are big shots post 14 years. Mohan Kumar locates them with the help of his former jail mate, R D Puri (Ashok Kumar) and threatens them.

On the other hand, Ravi Kumar (Rishi Kapoor) is a con artist and is good with card games. He is recruited by J K for his gambling den. In the meantime, Mohan Kumar rescues his former employer, the dead Dinesh Verma’s (Pradeep Kumar) daughter Roma (Amrita Singh), from being tortured by her wayward alcoholic maternal uncle (Satyen Kapoo).

On Roma’s birthday, Mohan Kumar books a table at a high-end hotel but cannot go with her due to some new commitment. He tells her that he would join her later. Ravi and his accomplice Tony (Javed Khan) con Roma out of her purse with bundles of currency. But before Ravi can escape, he has to save Mohan Kumar from being shot by Balwant (Amrish Puri), who is one of J K’s accomplices in crime.

When Ravi gets to know that Balwant is J K’s man, the former decides to help J K kill Mohan Kumar. For that, Ravi gets closer to Roma, by returning the purse he and Tony had stolen from her. Roma falls in love with Ravi. Ravi also comes closer to Mohan Kumar and is asked by the latter to visit Puri’s office, regarding a job.

On the other hand, Mohan Kumar is on a killing-spree, himself. He is in the process of avenging himself. His first target is Prakash. During a careless moment, Mohan Kumar’s conversation with Puri is overheard by Ravi that he is going to kill Prakash. Mohan Kumar is still not in the know that Ravi has been planted by J K. Ravi hurries to Prakash’s place to save him. He even tries to call Prakash from a phone booth. It doesn’t work. The fact that there were no cellphones, in those days; needs to be noted. The lift he is in also gets stuck and he is unable to warn Prakash, in time. Ravi informs J K, about who tricked Prakash to his death and J K hires Ravi to kill Mohan Kumar.

Puri has a party at his home and Ravi is also invited. Ravi is compelled by Puri to sing this song at the party, hiding the gun given by J K.
