The song, Duniya bohot hi kamaal hai, was featured in the Dharma Productions’ action movie Duniya (1984), directed by Ramesh Talwar and produced by Yash Johar. The movie starred Ashok Kumar, Dilip Kumar, Rishi Kapoor, Amrita Singh, Pran, Amrish Puri, etc.

Mohan Kumar (Dilip Kumar) is released from prison and visits an orphanage looking for his son, Ravi, who was taken in after Mohan Kumar was sent to jail 14 years ago. It turns out that the 7-year-old boy disappeared from there within months of admission. Mohan Kumar is frustrated by the irresponsible behavior of the manager and visits his old home, which is in ruins now. He remembers the time he was happy with his wife Sumitra (Saira Banu) and son, several years ago.

Jugal Kishore Ahuja aka J K (Pran), Prakash (Prem Chopra) and Balwant (Amrish Puri), who are responsible for the mess that had happened in Mohan Kumar’s life; are big shots post 14 years. Mohan Kumar locates them with the help of his former jail mate, R D Puri (Ashok Kumar) and threatens them.

On the other hand, Ravi Kumar (Rishi Kapoor) is a con artist and is good with card games. After winning a card game with a cheater, he sings this song.

The lyrics of the song, Duniya bohot hi kamaal hai, were penned by Javed Akhtar and the music was set by R D Burman.

The man sings, “People say that it is a web of illusions. But, the world is amazing.”

The cinematography is by Jehangir Choudhary-Jal Mistry. Dance choreography is by Suresh Bhatt.

The video opens with Rishi Kapoor beginning the song and exposing the cheater. He is outside now and points at something in the sky and people start looking there. He is with Arvind Deshpande and leaves with the older man.

As the spectators try to find out what was it the lead actor was pointing at, Javed Khan easily picks their pockets. Rishi Kapoor, actually, has a team and they enjoy, after stealing the people’s wallets.

One man belonging to the team, snatches a woman’s bag on a beach and is stopped by Rishi Kapoor. The lead actor returns the bag to the woman. But the money from the bag has stealthily been removed by Arvind Deshpande.

The actor, who had snatched the bag, had swooned and he is brought back to consciousness by the others by spraying a beverage on his face. Rishi Kapoor distributes the looted money among his team members.

The whole team dances together. A police constable passes that way and Rishi Kapoor turns around to act as if he is talking to one of his team members. When the constable moves away, they run away from the place and the song and the video also ends there.


Kishore Kumar has sung this song for Rishi Kapoor. Javed Khan and others are also seen in the video.
