Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. Tasks including operating heavy equipment to move material and equipment from one location to another, or to remove obstructions such as trees, stumps, logs, rocks, and debris from right of way under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level Engineering Equipment Operator who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed
– Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. You will be rated based on the following competencies:
Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles)Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)Operation of Motor VehiclesReliability and Dependability as a Engineering Equipment OperatorWork Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Exerts heavy effort in manipulating various levers, clutches, and brakes. Is subject to strain caused by crane vibrations and from jerking and jolting motions from moving equipment. Occasionally move objects such as cables, tools and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. Must change the position of attachments more often and rapidly to adjust to changing conditions of the surface; and control changes to maneuver equipment around obstructions. Must have the coordination and dexterity to operate hand and foot controls on all equipment described. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed outside in all types of weather and on irregular terrain (flat, hilly, on slopes of levees and canals, rough, infirm, swampy, or densely wooded areas). May work in partially enclosed cabs on moving equipment. And is subject to noise, dust, dirt, fumes from engines and exhaust, tipping or overturning the vehicle, and falling timbers when working in wooded areas.
