Qualification Summary
In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements – please be sure to include this information in your resume. This position has a Positive Education Requirement: Degree: Range Management OR a related discipline that included at least 42 semester hours in a combination of the plant, animal, soil sciences, and natural resources management, as follows: Range Management: At least 18 semester hours of course work in range management, including courses in such areas as basic principles of range management, range plants, range ecology, range inventories and studies, range improvements, and ranch or rangeland planning. Directly related plant, animal, and soil sciences: At least 15 semester hours of directly related courses in the plant, animal, and soil sciences, including at least one (1) course in each of these three scientific areas, i.e., plant, animal, and soil sciences. Courses in such areas as plant taxonomy, plant physiology, plant ecology, animal nutrition, livestock production, and soil morphology or soil classification are acceptable. Related resource management studies: At least 9 semester hours of course work in related resource management subjects, including courses in such areas as wildlife management, watershed management, natural resource or agricultural economics, forestry, agronomy, forages, and outdoor recreation management. For GS-05: Meet the Basic Education Requirements. For GS-07: Meet the Basic Education Requirements AND one year of professional range management experience equivalent to GS-5 in the Federal service. At this level work is entry-level with close supervision. Examples: assist higher level professionals with grazing applications and permits, on-the-ground use supervision, plan and conduct range studies, plan range & watershed improvements, conduct trespass investigations, consult with livestock operators & prepare land use planning documents; OR meet the basic requirement AND one year of graduate education in range management or a directly related field; OR graduated from a four year college with Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.) See OPM Quals Standard-General Policies E(4)(f); OR meet the basic requirement AND an equivalent combination of the type and level of experience and education described above. Superior Academic Achievement (See OPM’s General Policies, Application of Qualification Standards Section 4.f.) S.A.A. must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: The work is sedentary but may occasionally require some physical exertion such as walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces and exposure to extreme temperatures. The field duties of this position require that the employee operate four-wheel drive vehicles on and off roads in isolated areas. Work Environment: Work is performed in the office and field locations under a variety of topographic and climatic conditions. As required by Executive Order 14043, Federal employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee’s duty location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law. If selected, you will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and submit documentation of vaccination by November 22, 2021 or before your entry on duty date with the DOI Bureau of Land Management Nevada, if after November 22. DOI will provide additional information regarding what information or documentation will be needed and how you can request of BLM a legally required exception from this requirement. Due to COVID-19, the Bureau of Land Management Nevada is currently in an expanded telework posture. If selected, you may be expected to temporarily telework, even if your home is located outside the local commuting area. Once employees are permitted to return to the office, you will be expected to report to the duty station listed on this announcement in accordance with the Department’s reentry procedures provided by your Servicing Human Resources Office. At that time, you may be eligible to request to continue to telework one or more days per pay period depending upon the terms of the Department of the Interior’s telework policy.
