The song, Diljalonka dil jalake, appeared in the Prakash Mehra Productions’ action thriller Zanjeer (1973), directed and produced by Prakash Mehra. The movie starred Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bhaduri, Pran, Ajit, etc.

Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) is a police officer, who has seen his parents being murdered as a child. The dream of a masked man on horseback haunts him, every night.

Vijay is a reformist police officer. Despite the warnings of his senior (Iftekhar), he continues to reform the criminals, he meets. One evening, he is invited by Seth Dharam Dayal (Ajit) for a party where Vijay tries to follow the host. On the instructions of the Seth, the man’s girlfriend, Mona (Bindu) performs this song to keep Vijay away from the Seth.

Song – Diljalonka dil jalake

The lyrics of the song, Diljalonka dil jalake, were penned by Gulshan Bawra and set to tune by Kalyanji-Anandji.

The girl sings, “O Darling, what will you get by hurting the people, who are already hurt?”

The cinematography is by N Satyen. Dance choreography is by Satyanarayan.

The video opens with Bindu beginning to dance to the tune of the music, which has already begun. There is a slight amused smile lingering on Amitabh Bachchan’s lips. Ajit gives a stealthy look at him while smoking a cigarette.

Amitabh Bachchan tries to get close to Ajit, which is foiled by Bindu. Bindu continues to slither like a snake. The spotlight has been on Bindu and the leading man. The song ends abruptly and so does the video as the spotlight is switched off.


Asha Bhonsle sings this song for Bindu. Amitabh Bachchan, Ajit and other actors are also seen in the video.

Cultural Influence

There is no influence of any culture on this song. This song is a cabaret performed by Bindu. The song and the artists are fantastic. The video is watchable for the same.
