It’s been a long time since I have talked about my idol, Sridevi. So, let’s have the song, Bhooli bisri ek kahani, from the Bollywood movie Nagina (1986), for today.
Movie – Nagina (1986)
The song, Bhooli bisri ek kahani, was featured in Eastern Films’ fantasy Nagina (1986) produced and directed by Harmesh Malhotra. The cast includes Rishi Kapoor, Sridevi, Sushma Seth, Prem Chopra, Komal Mahuvakar, Amrish Puri, etc.
The name of the movie is Nagina, but the precious stone is not shown throughout this movie and only references are made to it in dialogues.
Rajiv (Rishi Kapoor) is a wealthy land-owner, living in a palatial home with his mother (Sushma Seth). His mother wants him to get married to Vijaya (Komal Mahuvakar), the only daughter of Thakur Ajay Singh (Prem Chopra). But, Rajiv is attracted to their old ancestral house where one day he finds a girl (Sridevi) singing this song.

Video – Bhooli bisri ek kahani
Cinematography V Durgaprasad.
The video opens with Rishi Kapoor entering the ruins of the ancestral mansion. The music has begun and a female voice has also begun the song. There is some fog around the place to give the video an ethereal effect.
Rishi Kapoor is searching for the singer. Suddenly, he turns around and discerns Sridevi, walking on the balcony of the mansion. He is shocked when Sridevi disappears at one place and appears elsewhere.
He climbs the staircase to reach the first floor. She shows herself to him in glimpses. Suddenly, she appears on the grounds. He runs down the staircase and follows her all over the ground floor of the mansion, through the fog.
Then, he, suddenly, sees her at the top of the mansion. When he reaches there, she is on the grounds again. The song ends abruptly and the video also ends as he runs down the stairs toward the grounds.
The playback singer is Anuradha Paudwal and the song is lip-synched by Sridevi, while Rishi Kapoor looks on.
There is no influence of any culture on this song. Sridevi’s hide-and-seek with Rishi Kapoor creates an aura of intrigue. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
