In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:
To qualify for the GS-13 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-12 level defined as using atmospheric detection technologies, remote chemical, biological, or radiological (CBRN) sensing systems in response to CBRN incidents or identifying fugitive emissions of potentially hazardous materials, OR providing technical and system design experience on atmospheric detection systems including integration into next generation aerial platforms (e.g. unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Your application package will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Skill in serving as a recognized expert in using airborne spectral photometric technologies, infrared remote sensing systems and radiological detection systems for responding to chemical and radiological incidents.
Ability to provide support, leadership, and oversight to teams of technical response personnel during emergency responses.
Knowledge of stand-off hyperspectral and radiological detection systems.
Knowledge of theory of operation, instrument design, and modes of operation for atmospheric imaging systems.
Skill in generating new hypotheses, developing new concepts, and planning and evaluating long range programs and projects.
Ability to make decisions using best professional judgment with limited information.
Skill in written communication.
Skill in oral communication. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
