To qualify for this Biological Science Laboratory Technician GS-7 position, applicant(s) must meet the Selective Placement Factor (SPF) PLUS at least one of the additional experience and/or education qualification requirements. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SCREEN-OUT) – A Selective Placement Factor (SPF) has been identified for this position. Selective Placement Factors (SPF) are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for the position. Applicants who do not meet the SPF are ineligible for further consideration. The SPF for this position is: Experience working in a Medical Research environment with animal research conducting microRNA studies, including designing Vivo Morpholinos, performing immunoblotting, and cell isolation. In addition to the SPF, applicant(s) must meet at least one of the following qualification requirements. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least next lower grade (GS-6) in the Federal service that is directly related to the work of the position. The specialized experience required for some positions in this series is normally work performed in a controlled environment. Qualifying specialized experience include: Research activity or control program work; Nursery work that required the growing and maintenance of plants in a controlled environment; Work comparable to that with a large dairy farm where production records, animal environment, and sanitary conditions were kept in accordance with modern dairy practice. Farming experience that was not performed in a controlled environment, or experience as a laborer who was not responsible for planning and scheduling his/her own work, but only performed assigned tasks, would not qualify as specialized experience. In addition to the above experience described for entry level positions, specialized experience specific to this GS-7 position includes: conducting a variety of biological science laboratory techniques, animal husbandry, colony management (includes knockout colonies and breeding management); evaluating and analyzing data generated investigations/studies and applying sound statistical procedures; and communicating orally and in-writing, to explain recommendations, provide guidance, respond to inquiries, and prepare reports, spreadsheets, and presentations using various Microsoft software programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint (or other graphics software). SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successful completion of Six months of graduate-level education, or internship may be used to meet the specialized experience required. Only education directly related to the work of the position is creditable. -OR-
