Baadal (Amitabh Bachchan) is a happy-go-lucky man, who serves a community of poor people by stealing from the rich. He is often caught and jailed for it. On the second occasion when he is allowed to go after his prison term, he is advised by the jailor to mend his ways. Otherwise, next time he would be in prison for a longer time period. Once outside, he sees an official taking bribe for some reason and steals the money. He reaches his community and distributes that money to the needy.

One day, Baadal meets Ramu (Ramesh Deo) at a fair. He is a former servant of Thakur Maharaj Singh (Shammi Kapoor). Ramu has always been greedy. Age has not affected his attitude. Baadal’s mannerisms remind Ramu of his former employer and he strikes a deal with him. Maharaj Singh’s son Chimpu had been kidnapped as a child and Ramu prepares Baadal to replace the heir of the Thakur. To this end, Ramu also gets a trident sign tattooed on Baadal’s shoulder very like the one Chimpu had. Ramu insists that once he gets the millions, they would share it in a 50:50 ratio.

In the next shot, Baadal sets off for Maharaj’s home in a distant place, which a guitar and a knapsack. On reaching the nearest railway station, he asks a passerby for directions to Maharaj’s home. Following the directions, he plays his guitar and sings a song. He meets some college students, who insist that he sing another song after they have lunch together.

A run-away horse disrupts the young crowd enjoying the music. The horse attacks one of the students, Sunita (Saira Banu). Baadal tames the horse and takes it back to the stud farm where it belongs. The stud farm belongs to Maharaj Singh. Baadal immediately gets a job there, which he accepts.

On returning to the forest where the students are still present, Baadal finds that his guitar is with Sunita. Soon, it turns out that Baadal and Sunita have fallen in love with each other, without knowing anything about each other. Baadal insists that they do not speak about themselves.

The horse, which was tamed by Baadal, is called Rustam and the other trainers in the stud form are unable to control it. Only, Baadal can calm it down. Maharaj Singh comes to the stud farm one day and is furious when he gets to know that a new person is handling the older man’s prized derby horse. But, on seeing the calmness of the horse in the hands of Baadal, he relents. Maharaj Singh is reminded about his youth when he sees Baadal.

The older man gives him an expensive watch and also asks him if his aim is also as good. Baadal throws the watch in the air, snatches the older man’s gun and shoots the watch in the air. Maharaj Singh is furious that the youth had insulted the expensive gift he had given.

Sometime later, Ramu comes to the stud farm and insists that Baadal find a way to go to Maharaj Singh’s home. The only way is to make Maharaj Singh see the trident tattoo. The question was how. Baadal finds a way to irk the older man again and the latter tries to beat up Baadal. In the process, Baadal’s shirt gets torn and the trident is revealed. Maharaj Singh thinks that the tattoo is a real birthmark and takes Baadal home to meet his wife (Indrani Mukherjee).

Soon, the old couple celebrates the return of their child. Maharaj Singh sings this song at this point.

Shammi Kapoor is also happy and the performers are seen dancing. The older man clicks his beer mug with some other actors’ and begins this song. He walks to Indrani Mukherjee, who places her head on his chest and he approaches Amitabh Bachchan and hugs him.

The older man distributes whiskey glasses to some other actors and some of the male dancers lift him on their shoulders. I wonder why the female dancers are not wearing Bhangra costumes. Amitabh Bachchan looks happily, first at the older man and then Indrani Mukherjee.

The lead actor’s attention is grabbed by something that is happening outside the compound of the mansion. Saira Banu is getting down from a car. The lead actors approach each other with a pleasant surprise. The song and the video end abruptly at this point.

Mahendra Kapoor sings this song for Shammi Kapoor. Amitabh Bachchan, Indrani Mukherjee, Saira Banu and others are seen in the video.

Cultural Influence

There is no influence of any culture on this song. Though some amount of Bhangra has been choreographed for the dancers. This is one of my favorite Mahendra Kapoor croons. The song and the artists are fantastic. The video is watchable for the same.
