Qualification Summary
For the GS-07 grade level: Applicants must possess 52 weeks of specialized experience at the next lower grade level (ie, GS-5 for GS-7) in the federal service.
Specialized experience is defined as one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in nonroutine engineering work that required and was characterized by (1) professional knowledge of engineering; (2) professional ability to apply such knowledge to engineering problems; and (3) positive and continuing development of professional knowledge and ability.
Applicants must possess a professional working knowledge of engineering and/or physical science concepts, theories and methods.
Examples of qualifying experience include: Knowledge of MSHA regulatory standards, policies and practices;
Ability to orally communicate with various audiences;
Ability to carry out calculations, and read, understand, and interpret findings; and,
Experience operating various instruments and equipment in order to collect or analyze data. OR, possess 1 full year of Graduate level education that provided the knowledges, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
OR, possess 1 full year of Graduate level education in physical science, engineering, or math that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science or related disciplines that provided the knowledge’s, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
Or, possess a Bachelor’s degree in a professional engineering curriculum and Superior Academic Achievement demonstrated by my class standing. I graduated in the upper third of my class or major university subdivision.
Or, possess a Bachelor’s degree in physical science, engineering, or math that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science and Superior Academic Achievement demonstrated by my class standing. I graduated in the upper third of my class or major university subdivision.
OR, possess a Bachelor’s degree in a professional engineering curriculum and Superior Academic Achievement demonstrated by my Grade Point Average (GPA). I have a cumulative undergraduate GPA OF 2.95 OR higher out of a possible 4.0 based on 4 years of education.
OR, possess a Bachelor’s degree in physical science, engineering, or math that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science and Superior Academic Achievement demonstrated by my Grade Point Average (GPA). I have a cumulative undergraduate GPA OF 2.95 OR higher out of a possible 4.0 based on 4 years of education.
OR, possess a Bachelor’s degree in a professional engineering curriculum and Superior Academic Achievement demonstrated by my Grade Point Average (GPA). I have a GPA OF 2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0 in courses completed during the final two years of the curriculum.
Or, possess a Bachelor’s degree in physical science, engineering, or math that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science and Superior Academic Achievement demonstrated by my Grade Point Average (GPA). I have a GPA OF 2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0 in courses completed during the final two years of the curriculum.
OR, possess a Bachelor’s degree in a professional engineering curriculum and Superior Academic Achievement demonstrated by my Grade Point Average (GPA). I have a GPA of 3.45 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in my major field.
OR, possess a Bachelor’s degree in physical science, engineering, or math that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science and Superior Academic Achievement demonstrated by my Grade Point Average (GPA). I have a GPA of 3.45 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in my major field.
OR, possess a Bachelor’s degree in a professional engineering curriculum and Superior Academic Achievement demonstrated by my Grade Point Average (GPA), I have a GPA of 3.45 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in my major field during the final two years of the curriculum.
OR, possess a Bachelor’s degree in physical science, engineering, or math that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science and Superior Academic Achievement demonstrated by my Grade Point Average (GPA), I have a GPA of 3.45 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in my major field during the final two years of the curriculum.
OR, possess a Bachelor’s degree in a professional engineering curriculum and Superior Academic Achievement demonstrated by my election to membership in a national scholastic honor society.
OR, I have a Bachelor’s degree in physical science, engineering, or math that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science and Superior Academic Achievement demonstrated by my election to membership in a national scholastic honor society.
OR, possess a combination of Specialized Experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in nonroutine engineering work that required and was characterized by (1) professional knowledge of engineering; (2) professional ability to apply such knowledge to engineering problems; and (3) positive and continuing development of professional knowledge and ability and Graduate level education that provided the specific knowledges, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position.
OR, possess a combination of Specialized Experience equivalent to the GS-05 level and Graduate level education in physical science, engineering, or math that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science that provided the specific knowledge’s, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position.
