Qualification Summary
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Specialized Experience GS-7:
Applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience which has equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. Technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to the GS-6 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: performing optometry and clinical administrative responsibilities to include obtaining a thorough medical and ocular history from patients; performing various types of vision testing; measuring visual acuity; performing visual field tests; performing visual imaging; triaging patients; changing eye dressings; instilling drops and resolving issues with poor fitting eyeglasses. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required) – Successful completion one year of graduate education (18 semester hours), which is directly related to the work of the position. (Examples of coursework are Vision Science, Optometry, Ophthalmology, Ocular Anatomy, Ocular Biochemistry, etc.) OR COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required) – Combination of successfully completed graduate education (above a bachelor’s degree) and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements . The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-07. Physical Requirements: The incumbent requires adequate manual dexterity and fine motor coordination to utilize some of the instrumentation. In addition, the incumbent may be required to transfer patients from a wheelchair to the examination chairs or seating in the testing areas. This position requires regular walking, sitting, standing and occasionally handling supply boxes of varying weights. It is not a sedentary position. Work Environment: The work involves regular and recurring exposure to moderate risks and discomforts that require special safety and health precautions. Work is typically performed in a clinical setting that exposes incumbent to biohazards, hazardous chemicals and hazardous medications common in health care environments.
