Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The employee exerts physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate the vehicles’ hand and foot controls; physical exertion and frequent stooping and bending effort to assist patients, both litter and wheelchair; loading and unloading from vans and buses; to and from bed/litter; in private homes, in tight surroundings, through narrow hallways, and in difficult loading areas. Physical effort is required to stoop, bend, climb to inspect vehicle; and, to lift in excess of sixty- pound tire/rim combination to change tires. Heavy lifting (45 lbs and over); Heavy carrying (45 lbs and over); Pushing (up to 3 hours); Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking (up to 4 hours); Standing (up to 4 hours); Repeated bending (up to 4 hours); Climbing, use of legs and arms; Both legs required; Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; Both eyes required; Depth perception; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Ability to distinguish shades of colors; Hearing (aid permitted). The employee operates vehicles in all types of traffic and road conditions including very congested urban traffic; interstate highways, city streets and county roads; rural unpaved roads; and construction zones; and in all types of weather. Employee experiences a variety of working positions, e.g., stooping, bending. Employee is required to work indoors and outdoors experiencing a variety of weather conditions. Employee is exposed to heat, cold, dust, rain, etc. The employee is also at possible risk of illness due to direct patient contact while Caring for and transporting patients.
