In order to qualify, you must meet the general experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: One year of general experience is required for GS-0679-04 level positions. General experience is knowledge of medical terminology and conditions to determine type and urgency of appointment required. Knowledge of the services offered, procedures and medical terminology common to each specialty, to properly schedule patient appointment avoiding conflict in patient care and to respond to patient inquires. Knowledge of regulations governing patient eligibility for service. A practical knowledge of the Medical Centers organization, services, the basic rules and regulations governing visitors and patient. OR EDUCATION: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to schedule medical appointments. Knowledge of medical conditions in order to identify and schedule appointment with appropriate provider/clinic service. 2. Skill in answering phones, forwarding calls, and taking messages. 3. Skill in operating a personal computer. A fully qualified typist is required. 4. Ability to interpret provider documentation. Ability to utilize reference books. 5. Ability to use a basic computer and network computer applications. 6. Ability to input and retrieve data from appropriate sources, normally a database network. Ability to read and comprehend various regulations, policies, and guidelines and apply them to specific duties and responsibilities. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
