Qualification Summary
In accordance with the Secretary of Defense policy change for Department of Defense childcare priorities, care for children of civilians will be extremely limited. Alternative options for childcare within the Kaiserslautern/Landstuhl area are also extremely limited. Applicants with childcare requirements are encouraged to research options prior to accepting job offers. Child care needs will not be a factor in the selection process. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for certain personnel of DoD workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Who May Apply: US Citizens In addition to meeting the specialized experience listed below you must submit a copy of one of the following certifications along with your application package: Certified Professional Coder – Hospital Based (CPC-H), Certified Professional Coder – Outpatient (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist – Hospital Based (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist – Outpatient (CCS-P), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA). In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes pulling reports from various automated sources for internal or external coding audits; interpreting policies, regulations and/or guidelines that govern medical record administration; providing training to subordinates and staff; evaluating medical records to ensure they meet current professional standards; and managing medical coding work flow to meet production time frames and avoid backlogs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone–no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
