Movie – Himalay Ki God Mein (1965)
The song, Main toh ik khwab hoon, featured in Shree Prakash Pictures’ socio-drama Himalay Ki God Mein (1965) produced by Shankarbhai Bhatt and directed by Vijay Bhatt. The movie starred Manoj Kumar, Mala Sinha, Shashikala, Jayant, etc.
Dr. Sunil Mehra’s (Manoj Kumar) flight lands in some wilderness because of a medical emergency. He goes about looking for a hospital and is caught by dacoits to be tortured and left for dead. A villager Phulwa (Mala Sinha) finds him unconscious, the next morning. She and her friends take him to her home. Sunil wakes up soon and realizes that proper medical facilities are not available in this village and other villages nearby. A quack Ghughar Baba (Kanhaiyalal) was throwing the wool over the eyes of the people by promoting superstition in the area.
Sunil returns home to the city and when an epidemic strikes the village, Phulwa brings her father the Chowdhury (David) to the city hospital where Sunil is working (Sunil had given her the address of his hospital.) This incident prompts Sunil to return to the village and set up a charitable clinic there. Slowly, he gains the confidence of the villagers, so much so that they take care of his everyday needs.
The dacoit Lakhan Singh (Jayant) discourages Sunil from staying on in the village, thinking the doctor is a whistleblower for the police. Lakhan Singh is about to shoot Sunil when a snake bites his horse and his aim wavers. The bullet hits his henchman and Sunil does his duty of treating the wounded man. Lakhan Singh seems to regret his attitude toward the doctor. The dacoit is shown to be standing on the ground. His horse must have been killed, due to the snake bite. But, that is not shown.
Sunil informs his rich parents that he had decided to dedicate his entire life to the hospital, he had constructed in the village. His policeman father thinks that he would have to bring his son back to the city, himself. When Sunil’s father comes to the village to take his son away, he has to return empty-handed. Then, Sunil’s mother sends Sunil’s fiancé Dr. Neeta (Shashikala) to bring him back. Previously, Neeta had refused to support Sunil in his decision of opening a hospital in the remote areas of the Himalayas. When Neeta visits the village, Sunil refuses to return.
Neeta also resents the closeness between Sunil and Phulwa. On the night Neeta comes to the village, Sunil is performing surgery on a patient with the help of Phulwa. Ghughar Baba is watching the operation and hits the lantern with a pebble to switch off the only source of light for the activity. Phulwa is about to go to check, who did it. But, Sunil stops her and tells her to save the light. Phulwa goes to the extent of burning her hands to save the flame from getting extinguished. After the operation, Sunil bandages her burnt hands and kisses them, confessing his love for her. Neeta is also eavesdropping on the conversation and is not too happy about the turn of events. She leaves the village to go back to the city. Before leaving, she drops a word with the Chowdhury that Dr. Sunil is her fiancée and she knew how to get what was hers. The Chowdhury in effect stops Phulwa from meeting Sunil.
Neeta returns home and informs Sunil’s parents about the goings-on in the village. They decide to trick Sunil to return home by sending a telegram saying his mother’s ill. Sunil is not in a mood to leave his patients. But, his new compounder suggests that he could go home for a week and leave enough medicine ready for his patients for that period of time. When he reaches his parents’ home, he realizes that the telegraphic message was a lie and his mother was hale and hearty.
Sunil returns to the village and due to certain circumstances, he has to forward his matrimonial proposal for Phulwa to her father, which is outright rejected. Dejected, he comes out of Phulwa’s home to sing this song.

The song, Main toh ik khwab hoon, was penned by Qamar Jalalabadi and the music was composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.

The video opens with Manoj Kumar dragging his feet through the wilderness and taking a seat on a rock. The music has already begun. He begins to sing this song. Mala Sinha comes that way. He walks further away.
Mala Sinha feels sad, too. The usage of the flute, violin and trumpet has been made in the song to create a sad atmosphere. Mala Sinha is crying. Soon, the song peters out and the video also ends as she is at close range with him.
