Qualification Summary
Who May Apply: US Citizens GS-4 Grade Level Specialized Experience: Six months of general experience (1) in any type of work that demonstrates the applicant’s ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with surveying. AND six months of specialized experience which includes meeting any of the following: 1) Operate survey equipment such as a level to transfer elevations from one location to another; 2) Operate Windows based computer using programs such as Microsoft Office to enter data; or 3) Operate Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment from either a fixed position or in a moving vehicle. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-03). OR Education: Two years of education above the high school level. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages. GS-5 Grade Level Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience utilizing computerized survey equipment situated on survey vessels. Survey produce charts, graphs, maps, and other data and maintenance projects. Documents are distributed to other Federal and local agencies in support of their projects or research as well as to pilot associations or other special interest groups. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. GS-6 Grade Level Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience with technical engineering and surveying methods and techniques, operating Real Time Kinematic Differential Positioning System equipment and Multi-beam and Single Beam fathometers, and operating inertial navigation systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. GS-7 Grade Level Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing hydrographic survey parameters by determining or computing the shore station sites needed, based on geometry and/or signal strength in the survey parameter area. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/ or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
