Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. All positions in this series require a minimum of one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression. Experience must have been as an embalmer, funeral director, or mortuary officer that included restorative art and cosmetology. It must have required knowledge of the laws governing mortuary activities, including transportation of remains. The experience must also have demonstrated the ability to establish effective working relationships with individuals, groups, and the public. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes; embalming and preparing remains to ensure proper preservation and appearance; providing oversight on the planning and directing of funeral services to include transportation of remains; AND determining the next of kin entitled by law to receive personal effects and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Selective Placement Factor Requirement: Applicants must be licensed to practice embalming and funeral directing by a State, territory, or the District of Columbia. You must identify the certificate/license you hold and the dates it is valid and expires in your resume and/or supplemental data. You will be ineligible for further consideration if you do not meet this requirement. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
