The song, Kaun tujhe roke, was featured in the Sippy Films’ crime thriller Black Cat (1959), directed by Nisar Ahmad Ansari and produced by G P Sippy. The movie started Balraj Sahni, Minoo Mumtaz, Nisar Ahmad Ansari, Johnny Walker, etc.

Rajan (Balraj Sahni) is a police officer-in-charge of the case of the notorious criminal Black Cat. The Black Cat is audacious enough to regularly leave his calling card at the scene of the crime and is very confident that he will not be caught. Rajan is in love with Nita (Minoo Mumtaz), the sister of a close family friend Professor Gupta (Nisar Ahmad Ansari).

Rajan’s friend Popat (Johnny Walker) is a detective and assists Rajan from outside the police force. Together with his assistant Bulbul (Shammi), Popat also begins to search for the Black Cat albeit playing safe and not falling prey to the goons. What no one knows is that Professor Gupta is a heart patient by day and the Black Cat by night.

One night, Popat and Bulbul visit a club, disguised. Professor Gupta appears there also disguised as a normal club-goer with a female assistant. Popat gets suspicious of the man and he with Bulbul follows the man’s movements.

Popat’s mother (Amrit Rana) is against his detective business and he often uses disguises to deceive her. One day, he and Bulbul disguise as ascetics and dupe his mother of 2000 rupees. Their manservant reveals to Popat’s mother that Popat had cheated her. Then, Popat sings this song while the couple enjoys the money.

Song – Kaun tujhe roke

The lyrics of the song, Kaun tujhe roke, were penned by Jan Nisar Akhtar and the music was set by N Dutta.

The song goes, “Who will stop you? Who will interrupt you? Go on and keep cheating the world.”

The cinematography is by K S Jaitly. Dance choreography is by Satyanarayan.

The video opens with Johnny Walker and Shammi shaking hands and beginning to dance. She reaches out for the money in his hand and he tries to save it from her. Eventually, she wins and he is left with empty hands.

Johnny Walker begins to sing this song. Some girls, including Edwina Violette, watch the performance from one of the windows. With them are some men. They leave their work behind to enjoy the party.

These actors enter the room through a door and begin to dance as couples. Amrit Rana comes there and is angry with Johnny Walker and Shammi for partying with her money. The music and the dance rise to a crescendo and the video ends as Amrit Rana is shown to be furious.


Mohammad Rafi has sung this song for Johnny Walker. Shammi, Edwina Violette and others are also seen in the video.

Cultural Influence

There is no influence of any culture on this song. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
