Qualification Summary
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/19/2021. Basic Requirements: You must meet at least one (1) of the following requirements: Four-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR, Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that you have acquired the knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR, Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. Time-In-Grade Requirement GS-7: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Specialized Experience GS-7: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Assists clients so they may use their insight, personal strengths and resources, goal setting, action steps and accountability; assists with ongoing sessions to assess progress; assists with utilizing motivational interviewing and health coaching techniques and processes; and assists with interventions using one-on-one, couple, or group modalities in outpatient and inpatient settings. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have one year of graduate-level education or have completed a Bachelor’s Degree with superior academic achievement (GPA of 2.95 or above). OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond 6 months of appropriate experience equivalent to GS-7 and 27 semester hours of appropriate graduate education. Specialized Experience GS-9: Provide support to clients so they may use their insight, personal strengths and resources, goal setting, action steps and accountability; schedules ongoing sessions to assess progress; utilizes motivational interviewing and health coaching techniques and processes; and conducts interventions using one-on-one, couple, or group modalities in outpatient and inpatient settings. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required specialized experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level, you must have 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s degree or master’s or equivalent graduate degree. (Copy of transcript is required). OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine graduate level education (in excess of the first year or 18 semester hours) and experience to qualify at this grade level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Work is performed in an office setting with occasional visits to areas within the service as well as throughout the Medical Center. Work area is adequately lighted, heated and air conditioned. The normal risk and discomforts typical of an office and clerical work area are included. There are no unusual risks or safety hazards associated with the position. Regular and recurring work is mostly sedentary involving sitting at a desk, although the position requires the ability to move from one geographic location of the facility to another. Some physical effort such as standing, walking, bending or prolonged sitting may be required. The work places no special physical demands on the employee.
