Movie – Dil Toh Pagal Hai (1997)
The song, Bholisi soorat, appears in the Yash-Raj Films’ romrama Dil Toh Pagal Hai (1997), directed by Yash Chopra and produced by Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra. The movie starred Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Karishma Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, etc.
The movie begins with Pooja (Madhuri Dixit) and Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) speaking their minds about the topic of love and life-partner. Pooja believes that God has made someone for her. Rahul disbelieves the whole concept of love and ridicules the idea of the Godsend companion for life. A song is heard in the background, which expresses Pooja’s thoughts.
Post the above song, the next shot itself has another song, performed by Nisha (Karishma Kapoor) with other girls. At the end of this song, Rahul appears and announces a new play, Maya. But when the other troupe members question him about the new play, he says that right then Maya was a concept. When the others insist, Rahul puts his thoughts into words in this song. But, Nisha is not convinced that such a girl could be found on the earth.
Song – Bholisi soorat
The song, Bholisi soorat, was penned by Anand Bakshi and set to tune by Uttam Singh.
The song praises the man’s concept of a girl, thus, “Her face is innocent. Her eyes are intoxicating. She is standing at a distance, blushing.”
Video – Bholisi soorat
The cinematography is by Manmohan Singh. Dance choreography is by Shiamak Davar.
The video opens Shah Rukh Khan beginning the song and performing the dance with the other male members of the troupe. He also teases Karishma Kapoor. On the other hand, Madhuri Dixit is seen humming the tune of the song, elsewhere and playing with her dupatta.
Again there is a change of scene. The troupe members including Shah Rukh Khan and Karishma Kapoor are working out. Karishma Kapoor begins to tease Shah Rukh Khan in the next shot. The song peters out and the video also ends as he reclines on the floor.
Udit Narayan and Lata Mangeshkar sing this song for Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit and Karishma Kapoor and some other actors are also seen in the video.
This song is a typically slow though melodious but young generation number, which may be liked by older people as well. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
