Qualification Summary
Grade 5: Qualifying experience for the GS-5 level includes one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level. Specialized experience includes: Maintaining employee personnel records in compliance with rules, regulations and established procedures; researching, documenting, and resolving a number of personnel requests using an automated personnel system; ensuring required documentation is accounted for and properly documented; performing quality assurance reviews on personnel records; correctingerrors and providing guidanceand alternative solutions to problems.
OR a full four years of progressive, successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is a prerequisite may be used to meet the qualification requirements for GS-5. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university.
OR a combination of experience (less than 1 year of specialized experience as described above) and post high school education beyond the second year which combined meet the education and experience requirements or combination of education and experience.In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for these positions must show possession of a typing speed of 40 words per minute. Applicants may meet this requirement by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
