The song, Yeh mera jadoo, was featured in the sociodrama Fakira (1976), produced by N N Sippy and directed by C P Dixit. The movie starred Shashi Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, Danny Dengzongpa, Aruna Irani, Asrani, Madan Puri, Iftekhar, etc.

After losing their parents to arson performed by criminals, 2 boys get separated and grow up to become thieves and criminals. Vijay (Shashi Kapoor) is Fakira, a conscientious one at that and Ajay (Danny Dengzongpa) grows up to be Toofan. Fakira aka Vijay always steals from Chiman Lal (Madan Puri), who is a covert smuggler, leading the life of a social activist. Chiman Lal pits Toofan against Fakira. Toofan reaches a hotel in search of Fakira where Vijay’s colleague Neelam (Aruna Irani) is performing this song.

Both lyrics and music of the song, Yeh mera jadoo, were composed by Ravindra Jain.

The song goes thus, “My looks are magical. They affect people. The people go out of control. They may be a thief or a sage.”

The cinematography is by Fali Mistry. Dance choreography is by Satyanarayan.

The video opens with the beginning of funky music and Aruna Irani beginning to dance with some male dancers. Shashi Kapoor is enjoying the show. She moves toward him and tries to hold his hand.

But, Shashi Kapoor does not allow it. Aruna Irani moves toward Danny Dengzongpa, who tries to catch her. But, she is just beyond him. He tries to molest her and she manages to get away from him, once more.

Shashi Kapoor is about to get up to save Aruna Irani from the other actor. When the other actor is unable to trouble her any more, Shashi Kapoor sits back to relax. Aruna Irani tries to pull Shashi Kapoor into the dance area for a dance together.

But, Aruna Irani is unsuccessful. Intermittently, she is picked up by the other male dancers on their shoulders for a few moments. Soon, the song peters out and the video also ends as Aruna Irani dances just out of reach of Danny Dengzongpa.


The playback of the song has been sung by Asha Bhonsle for Aruna Irani. Shashi Kapoor, Danny Dengzongpa, and others are also seen in the video.

Cultural Influence

This is an item song of yore, performed by Aruna Irani. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable.
