Qualification Summary
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions + IOR for 1310 Physics Series Positions. BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics. OR Combination of education and experience — courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In either A or B above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound. Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 (or higher) grade level or equivalent pay system (may have been obtained in the Federal service, military, or private sector). Specialized experience includes knowledge of scientific and/or engineering methods of research and investigation to solve complex scientific, engineering, and/or developmental problems. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your college transcripts. Federal time-in-grade (TIG) requirement for general schedule (GS) positions: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in­-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-13 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-14 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (KSAs): 1. Knowledge of diagnostic medical physics concepts, standards, practices, and instrumentation; Ability to travel to DoD installations within the United States, its territories, and foreign countries. 2. Knowledge of US Federal/DoD regulations, Joint Commission/ACR standards, and industry/AAPM guidance pertinent to diagnostic medical physics; Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and medical practices sufficient to effectively communicate with medical staff and facilitate patient care. 3. Knowledge of diagnostic imaging equipment and imaging informatics systems; Ability to plan, coordinate, and execute medical physics services. 4. Ability to apply principles and methods for information analysis, equipment troubleshooting, root-cause-analysis, process improvement, and quality control; Ability to identify, and take prompt action on, unsafe equipment and practices; Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 5. Ability to understand and further management goals and general policies to accomplish the organizational mission; Ability to effectively coordinate with other federal agencies and nongovernmental organizations (e.g. vendors). 6. Ability to assess the work of others (e.g. contractors, medical physics assistants, etc.); Ability to organize and lead a team; Ability to train and mentor others. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
