Qualification Summary
To qualify, there is no specific length of training or experience required; however, your resume must demonstrate enough experience to show your ability to perform the duties of a Utility Systems Repairer Operator without more than normal supervision. Examples of such experience include: (1) maintaining and repairing of complex mechanical, electromechanical, electrical and pneumatic equipment pertaining to water and wastewater treatment functions; (2) installing and repairing new and existing piping systems to include: PVC, copper, ductile, cast and/or galvanized; (3) observing and monitoring wastewater treatment equipment and operating conditions to determine process requirements; (4) performing laboratory and chemical analysis for water and wastewater treatment plant control. AND SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position has a Selective Placement Factor (screen-out) which will be used to determine minimum qualifications for this position. Applicants not possessing this Selective Placement Factor will be found ineligible for this position. The Selective Placement Factor is: a California Water Distribution (minimum D1) Certification. AND SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position has a Selective Placement Factor (screen-out) which will be used to determine minimum qualifications for this position. Applicants not possessing this Selective Placement Factor will be found ineligible for this position. The Selective Placement Factor is: a Backflow Prevention Certification, or the ability to obtain a Backflow Prevention Certification within 1 year after starting this position. AND SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position has a Selective Placement Factor (screen-out) which will be used to determine minimum qualifications for this position. Applicants not possessing this Selective Placement Factor will be found ineligible for this position. The Selective Placement Factor is: a Grade I Waste Water Treatment Operators Certification, or the ability to obtain a Grade I Waste Water Treatment Operators Certification within 1 year after starting this position. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Part-time or Unpaid Experience: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held. Physical Effort: The incumbent makes installation from ladders, scaffolds and platforms where parts of the systems are in cramped places. This requires standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and cramped positions. Frequently lifts and carries up to 50 pounds and occasionally over 40 pounds. Work Environment: The Utility Systems Operator is expected to work outside in all types of weather with temperatures varying from -20 to 90+ degrees; often works inside in dusty, dirty and occasionally greasy locations where there is a possibility of cuts and bruises.
