Movie – Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993)
The song, Yunhi kat jayega safar (version 2), appears in the T V Films and Tahir Husain Enterprises’ romedy Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993). Produced by Tahir Husain, the movie was directed by Mahesh Bhatt and the star-cast included Aamir Khan, Juhi Chawla, Tiku Talsania, Kunal Khemu, Sharokh Bharucha, Baby Ashrafa, etc.
Rahul Malhotra (Aamir Khan) receives the custodianship of a heavily-in-debt garments factory and his sister’s 3 mischievous children. Combined, these are things he had not bargained for when he is summoned by his deceased sister’s lawyer Homi Wadia (Tiku Talsaniya). The work at the factory is not going at the required pace. They need to complete 1 lakh shirts within a specific time period. When he reaches the factory, he gets to know that the workers are young girls and the girls begin to flirt with him.
Due to the fact that he has to convince the client Bijlani (Dalip Tahil) for some more time to complete the workload; Rahul comes home late, that night. The kids behave arrogantly and are punished by Rahul by locking them inside their room. They escape via an open window.
On the other hand, Vaijayanti (Juhi Chawla) escapes from her home when her father locks her up in her room for refusing to marry his choice. Vaijayanti and the kids meet at the carnival and get caught while cheating at a game stall. They strike a friendship with each other and after they come out of the carnival grounds, the kids understand that Vaijayanti has nowhere to go and tell her to come with them to their home. Vaijayanti also complies with the request.
The kids keep her hidden in the house. But, how long can a full-grown adult be hidden in a small house? Post a long drawn out comic sequence, Vaijayanti’s presence is discovered by Rahul, who tells her to leave. Rahul relents when she gives a cock-and-bull-story about her being an orphan and allows her to be the children’s governess at their home.
Vaijayanti teaches Rahul and the kids how to enjoy life together and adjust with each other. She also teaches them how to balance discipline and caring. Soon, Rahul and Vaijayanti fall in love with each other. But though, they do not confess their love for each other as of now, they know about the other’s feelings for them.
Bijlani’s daughter Maya (Navneet Nishan) wants Rahul for herself and conspires with her father, who compels Rahul to either marry his daughter or give up his garments business to become his servant. Rahul decides to get married to Maya for the sake of his sister’s children. Unknown to Rahul, Maya decides to send the kids to a boarding school once the marriage is over.
When Vaijayanti gets to know that Rahul is getting married to Maya, she is sad. On the day of Rahul and Maya’s engagement, Vaijayanti is crying and on the kids’ insistence, reveals that she is in love with their uncle. The kids and Vaijayanti storm the venue of the engagement and declare that she is Rahul’s wife and the kids are their children. Rahul curtly tells them to return home and back home, he gives them a scolding. The day after the engagement is called off, Bijlani and Maya visit Rahul and threaten him that if he does not marry Maya he would have to face dire consequences. Rahul puts his foot down and tells him that he would be marrying Vaijayanti and she would stay. The kids and Vaijayanti throw eggs and tomatoes on Bijlani and Maya and the father and daughter leave insulted.
When Homi Wadia is shown the registration papers that Rahul had signed for Bijlani, he tells Rahul that he has to produce 1 lakh (0.1 million) shirts in 15 days. Otherwise, Bijlani would auction his garments factory and properties. Vaijayanti takes Rahul to her home and asks her father to give him the required money. Her father gives Rahul a cheque for the amount and tells him to go out of Vaijayanti’s life since he wants only an Iyer groom for his daughter. Rahul gives the cheque back to the older man and returns with Vaijayanti to the factory. Finding no other alternative, he asks the workers if they would work for more hours to complete the backlog. The girls cooperate and he sings this song with Vaijayanti and the kids, at this time.

The song, Yunhi kat jayega safar (version 2), was penned by Sameer and set to tune by Nadeem-Shravan.
The song goes this way, “If we are together, we won’t realize the drudgery in our journey.”
Video – Yunhi kat jayega safar (version 2)
The cinematography is by Pravin Bhatt. Dance choreography is by Nimesh Udayan-Raju Khan-Madhav Kishan.
The video opens with the workers stitching the shirts and Aamir Khan beginning to sing this song. Juhi Chawla and the kids – Kunal Khemu, Sharokh Bharucha and Baby Ashrafa – serve tea to them. Soon, they complete the consignment of 0.1 million shirts and fill them in a truck to be sent to the client. The song rises to a crescendo and ends with the video.
Yunhi kat jayega safar (version 2) was sung by Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik and chorus for Aamir Khan, Juhi Chawla and the kids – Kunal Khemu, Sharokh Bharucha and Baby Ashrafa – and other actors are also visible in the video of this song.
There is no influence of any culture on this song. This is another of my favorite romantic songs written by Sameerji. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
