Movie – Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993)

The song, Woh meri neend mera chain mujhe lauta do, appears in the T V Films and Tahir Husain Enterprises’ romedy Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993). Produced by Tahir Husain, the movie was directed by Mahesh Bhatt and the star-cast included Aamir Khan, Juhi Chawla, Tiku Talsania, Kunal Khemu, Sharokh Bharucha, Baby Ashrafa, etc.

Rahul Malhotra (Aamir Khan) receives the custodianship of a heavily-in-debt garments factory and his sister’s 3 mischievous children. Combined, these are things he had not bargained for when he is summoned by his deceased sister’s lawyer Homi Wadia (Tiku Talsaniya). The work at the factory is not going at the required pace. They need to complete 1 lakh shirts within a specific time period. When he reaches the factory, he gets to know that the workers are young girls and the girls begin to flirt with him.

Due to the fact that he has to convince the client Bijlani (Dalip Tahil) for some more time to complete the workload; Rahul comes home late, that night. The kids behave arrogantly and are punished by Rahul by locking them inside their room. They escape via an open window.

On the other hand, Vaijayanti (Juhi Chawla) escapes from her home when her father locks her up in her room for refusing to marry his choice. Vaijayanti and the kids meet at the carnival and get caught while cheating at a game stall. They strike a friendship with each other and after they come out of the carnival grounds, the kids understand that Vaijayanti has nowhere to go and tell her to come with them to their home. Vaijayanti also complies with the request.

The kids keep her hidden in the house. But, how long can a full-grown adult be hidden in a small house? Post a long drawn out comic sequence, Vaijayanti’s presence is discovered by Rahul, who tells her to leave. Rahul relents when she gives a cock-and-bull-story about her being an orphan and allows her to be the children’s governess at their home.

Vaijayanti teaches Rahul and the kids how to enjoy life together and adjust with each other. She also teaches them how to balance discipline and caring. Soon, Rahul and Vaijayanti fall in love with each other. But though, they do not confess their love for each other as of now, they know about the other’s feelings for them.

Bijlani’s daughter Maya (Navneet Nishan) wants Rahul for herself and conspires with her father, who compels Rahul to either marry his daughter or give up his garments business to become his servant. Rahul decides to get married to Maya for the sake of his sister’s children. Unknown to Rahul, Maya decides to send the kids to a boarding school once the marriage is over.

When Vaijayanti gets to know that Rahul is getting married to Maya, she is sad and this song is heard in the background.

Song – Woh meri neend mera chain mujhe lauta do

The song, Woh meri neend mera chain mujhe lauta do, was penned by Sameer and set to tune by Nadeem-Shravan.

The song goes this way, “I have lost my sleep and peace of mind due to you. Return them to me.”

Video – Woh meri neend mera chain mujhe lauta do

The cinematography is by Pravin Bhatt.

The video opens with Juhi Chawla going to the terrace for some alone time. She perceives some clothes that have fallen on the floor due to the wind. These clothes had been hung for drying. She picks up the wayward clothes and those which have dried on the dryer.

Aamir Khan is standing on the verandah of his room. He is also sad. Juhi Chawla finds his white shirt and begins to cry. She drops all the clothes on the floor and cries bitterly. The lead pair bump into each other while doing household chores.

Juhi Chawla keeps going away from him. She burns her finger and Aamir Khan tries to take it to see the extent of the burn. She pulls her hand back. Then, he takes it forcefully and applies an ointment to the area.

Navneet Nishan and Dalip Tahil give some of the wedding cards to Aamir Khan. Aamir Khan is not very comfortable with the proceedings. He throws the cards into his car. He opens the door of the car to leave Dalip Tahil’s office.

Then, he bangs it shut to go to a garden to relax and think. Aamir Khan is still in the garden well into the night. I wonder why no policeman throws him out of the garden then. Back home as he gets ready to go for his engagement party, the song peters out and the video also ends there.

Artists

Woh meri neend mera chain mujhe lauta do was sung by Sadhana Sargam in the background. Juhi Chawla, Aamir Khan and the 3 kids – Kunal Khemu, Sharokh Bharucha and Baby Ashrafa also appear in the video.

Cultural Influence

There is no influence of any culture on this song. This is another of my favorite romantic songs written by Sameerji. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
