Qualification Summary
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following qualifications: ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY – In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SCREEN-OUT) – A Selective Placement Factor (SPF) has been identified for this position. Selective Placement Factors (SPF) are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for the position. Applicants who do not meet the SPF are ineligible for further consideration.
The SPF for this position is: Experience performing phlebotomy duties (blood draws) on humans. AND, in addition to meeting the English Language Proficiency and Selective Placement Factor , applicants must meet one of the following requirements: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-6) in Federal Service that has given you the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of a Medical Technician. Specialized experience includes: (a) technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings and/or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work that required application of the methods and techniques of a Medical Lab Technician. (Resume(s) must clearly support the duties and experience required for this position. We will not make assumptions regarding experience.)
-OR- SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Requires successful completion of one (1) full year of graduate level study at an accredited college or university leading to a master’s degree, with major study in subjects appropriate to the GS-7 Medical Technician position, which may include clinical hematology, clinical laboratory practices, phlebotomy practicum, clinical microbiology, clinical practicum, or special topics in the Medical Laboratory Technology field. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement.
-OR- COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience, as described above, may be used to meet total experience requirements.
