Disney-themed “Dancing With the Stars” proved less than magical for Carole Baskin

On Monday, “Dancing With the Stars” subjected its cast to season 29’s second elimination. In a season that includes music stars such as Nelly and AJ McLean, and actresses and television personalities such as Anne Heche and Jennie Mai, the likes of Nelly and Carole Baskin still stand out.

All of the dances were supposed to have a Disney theme. The judges and audiences seemed to be excited about the proposed theme. Disney’s lighthearted reputation could not save the contestants from the threat of elimination.

“Dancing With the Stars” highlights

While all the pairs dazzled with bright-colored sets, highlights from the Disney film that inspired their dances, and stellar outfits, the challenge of dancing to the judges’ standards remained.

Nelly, the rapper who introduced a listening public to “Country Grammar,” used his swag and burgeoning ballroom skills to bring the foxtrot to life with his professional partner, Daniella Karagach. The pair danced to “It’s Alright” (made famous by The Impressions) from the Disney movie “Soul,” due out in November. The rapper and the professional dancer danced well enough to be saved from eliminations. Online speculators have stated that Nelly should just dance to his own songs and he will win everyone’s votes. Though the statement is likely true, it is the stuff of fan fantasies, as the show often has themes that contestants should adhere to.

The night was less positive for big cat advocate, Carole Baskin. The big cat sanctuary owner danced a samba with partner, Pasha Pashkov to “Circle of Life” from, you guessed it, “The Lion King.” But having a big heart isn’t enough–people have remarked that they can tell Baskin has a “big” heart for the cats, which means more than just dancing. Which is fine, but the world’s most famous cat lady was eliminated. Her presence on the show was the source of controversy when Baskin avoided getting kicked off the previous week. Fans disagreed.

Many audience members will keep watching this season to see if Nelly pulls another backflip, or something else muscular and shocking. And, with Baskin off the show, it is anyone’s guess who is next to go.
