To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/07/2020. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
GS-5 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-4) which provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the Accounting Technician. Specialized experience includes but is not limited to: Experience working with accounting regulations, operations, and procedures to resolve transactions, discrepancies, or perform other work that requires authoritative procedural knowledge. Handling a variety of accounting and budget functional areas to research or investigate problems or errors that require reconciliation. Using automated systems to access, retrieve, and generate various transaction data and reports. Reviewing documents for missing or incompatible information.
GS-5 EDUCATION: Must have successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of a full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.
GS-5 COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must possess a combination of specialized experience and education as described above. *A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education. GS-6 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level which provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of an Accounting Technician. Specialized experience includes but is not limited to: Experience working with accounting regulations, operations, and procedures to resolve transactions, discrepancies, or perform other work that requires authoritative procedural knowledge. Reviewing documents for missing or incompatible information. Using judgment to select the most appropriate guidelines, procedures, and approaches appropriate for the work being accomplished. Working with a variety of procurement transactions and documents, accounting symbolic codes, account structures and procedures for setting up and liquidating obligations. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.
