Qualification Summary
Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-12, in the Federal Service.
Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (i.e. GS-12 for GS-13) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. For this position, Specialized Experience is defined as professional knowledge of chemistry and / or physical science concepts and methods used in contemporary mining coupled with practical experience in mining to serve in applying such knowledge to the issues and problems encountered. Examples of such experience are: Experience applying MSHA regulatory standards, policies and practices on a regular and recurring basis.
Experience in setting up and conducting a variety of flammability testing of mining products; such as: conveyor belts, hoses, electric cables, brattice cloth, hydraulic fluids, and sealants.
Knowledge of related engineering fields that impact materials flammability and fire testing.
Providing technical assistance in investigations involving mine fires and the flammability characteristics of materials. These types of examples should be reflected in your resume.
