Qualification Summary
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: None SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade, GS-07, in the normal line of progression for the occupation, MILITARY & FAMILY READINESS SPECIALIST at the GS-09 level. This position requires knowledge of the principles, policies, program goals and methodology of the National Guard quality of life programs, including factors that affect work and leisure environments, to administer a program that provides information about individual and family social problems and referral to social service programs and agencies, information about National Guard assistance programs, to gather and analyze information on problems and difficulties of obtaining assistance using the current system, to provide programs that address such problems, and to recommend action to improve the system. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: collecting, organizing, and submitting data and information; implementing and maintaining computer entry systems to support reporting, retrieval, and dissemination of data; developing and maintaining a directory of resources, agencies, and organizations that are available to assist supported individuals and/or groups; planning and providing information resource referrals across all essential services; maintaining a library of resource materials for use by staff and volunteers; conducting informal and formal training and recruiting of volunteers; and conducting briefings to provide necessary information to leadership. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the GS-07 grade/level position or equivalent in the federal service.

Applicants may also qualify on the basis of education as follows: To qualify based on education for the GS-09 level, you must have successfully completed a master’s or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your official transcripts.)C I have the specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have at least two years of graduate education as described in B, but less than the required three years. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). (Note: You must attach a copy of your official transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Specialized Experience: You may meet the qualifications requirement for this position by combining your specialized experience and appropriate graduate level education according to the following formula: (a) your total months of full time specialized experience as a percentage of a 12 month total; PLUS (b) your total number of qualifying graduate semester or quarter hours as a percentage of one year of graduate study. The total of the two percentages must equal at least 100 percent. (Note: You must attach a copy of your official transcripts.) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
