Mohammad Rafi’s last songs

Today’s second post is on Mohammad Rafi’s last songs. Mohammad Rafi had to take a sabbatical during the early 1970s because of a throat infection. He was treated for it and made a comeback as the lead singer in the mid-1970s. Teri galiyon mein na rakhenge kadam… from Hawas (1974) got him the Best Singer Award from the Film World magazine.

Mohammad Rafi Sahab gave the vocals for all Rishi Kapoor’s songs in Laila Majnu (1976), Hum Kisise Kam Nahin (1977) and Amar Akbar Anthony (1977). Hum Kisise Kam Nahin’s(1977) Kya hua tera vada… got him both the National Award as well as the Filmfare Award, that year. He went on to sing for many hit movies in the late 1970s and even the early 1980s. These songs dominated the hit-lists in the late 1970s on Vividh Bharati’s Binaca Geetmala and those on Radio Ceylon.
