Qualification Summary
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience and proficiency requirements described below. Specialized Experience for the GS-08: To qualify for the GS-08, you must possess one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through federal service that demonstrates secretarial work. Specialized Experience is experience thathas equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. This experience may have been gained either in the Federal or private sectors. Examples of specialized experience for the GS-08 grade level include: Serve independently as a principal office assistant;
Establishedworkflow of administrative and clerical processes in a large multi-facet office;
Construct, monitor, audit, control and organize a proficient filing system;
Schedule and coordinate travel, conferences, and meetings for others;
Research and gather imperative information for multiple reports, briefings, and conferences; and,
Composea varietyof non-technical correspondence Specialized Experience for the GS-07: To qualify for the GS-07, you must possess one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through federal service that demonstrates secretarial work. Specialized Experience is experience thathas equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. This experience may have been gained either in the Federal or private sectors. Examples of specialized experiencefor the GS-7 grade levelinclude: Coordinating, monitoring, and performing basic clerical and administrative functions of a work unit;
Knowledge of grammar, punctuation, format, and style to prepare correspondence, memorandums, and other documents utilizing word processing and other automated systems;
Experience with software suites related to word processing and database maintenance; Providing administrative advice on basic office procedures;
Performing basic receptionist duties; and,
Researching regulations. Proficiency Requirement for both grade levels: In addition to meeting the specializedexperience requirements, applicants mustpossess a typing proficiency of40 words per minute.
