Qualification Summary
In addition to meeting the Basic Education Requirements, applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.To qualify for the GS-11: In addition to meeting the basic education requirement, you must meet one of the following requirements: a. One year of professional experience in an appropriate field at least equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to GS-9 level work in the Federal service within or closely related to the aerospace technology specialty for which application is made. Specialized experience includes performing duties such as participating on a team performing research related to aeroacoustics for aerospace applications; or experience using computational tools for aerodynamic and/or acoustic analysis.ORb. Completion of three full academic years of graduate education in an appropriate field; ORc. An equivalent combination of experience and graduate education;ORd. Completion of all requirements for a master’s or equivalent degree in an appropriate field.To qualify for the GS-12: In addition to meeting the basic education requirement, you must meet one of the following requirements:a. One year of professional experience in an appropriate field at least equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to GS-11 level work in the Federal service within or closely related to the aerospace technology specialty for which application is made. Specialized experience includes performing duties such as participating in professional research in the area of flight vehicle acoustics; or, serving on a research team with emphasis on rotor/propeller technologies.ORb. An equivalent combination of experience and graduate education; ORc. Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in an appropriate field.To qualify at the GS-13 level: In addition to meeting the basic education requirement, you must meet one of the following requirements:Specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) includes performing duties such as research in flight vehicle acoustics; or, as a technical expert in research programs with an emphasis on rotor/propeller aerodynamic or noise predictions.Vacant research positions may be filled at one of several grade levels depending upon the scientific impact of the person selected. A review may be required to determine the appropriate grade level of the position and supplemental materials may be required from the selectee. Please keep this in mind when indicating the lowest grade you will accept.Your resume must include a clear and detailed narrative description, in your own words, of how you meet the required specialized experience.
