Movie – Rafoo Chakkar (1975)
Dil dena buri bala hai appeared in 1975 House of Nadiadwala and M I Films’ hit comic caper Rafoo Chakkar (Run Away), produced by I A Nadiadwala and directed by Narender Bedi. The movie starred Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Paintal, Madan Puri, Rajinder Nath, Asrani, etc.
Dev (Rishi Kapoor) and Salim (Paintal) are musicians, out-of-work. They witness a murder and are seen by the villains. In an attempt to save themselves, they disguise themselves as girls and join a group of girls, of a singing band, in a train to Kashmir. It is here that they meet Ritu (Neetu Singh) and Kanhaiyalal Chaturvedi (Asrani).
Dev has fallen in love with Ritu and tries to woo her like a rich man because she has clearly said that she would like to marry an affluent person. This Dev does in between disguising as a girl within the band. This is the first song performance that the band gives in the hotel they are staying in.
Song – Dil dena buri bala hai
The music of Dil dena buri bala hai was composed by Kalyanji Anandji and the lyrics were written by Gulshan Bawra.
The song insists that falling in love is an addiction.
Video – Dil dena buri bala hai
Cinematographer – Peter Pareira. Dance choreography is by Kamal-Sohanlal.
The video opens with the curtain opening as patrons dine in the hotel. Rishi Kapoor is playing the trumpet, wearing a female costume. Neetu Singh is also wearing a similar costume and begins to sing and dance.
Rishi Kapoor joins her in the song. Paintal is handling the drums and is also wearing a similar female costume. Some other girls, wearing costumes like the lead pair, take up the rear of the stage jumping to the tune of the song.
The costume is very short and vulgar. Rajinder Nath has brought a large bouquet and beckons to Asrani to help him give it to the intended person – Paintal. But, Paintal is not interested. Rishi Kapoor replaces Rajinder Nath’s picture on the bouquet with his logo (as the rich man) and gifts it to Neetu Singh. The song rises to a crescendo and ends. So does the video.
Artists
Usha Mangeshkar and Kanchan have sung playback and Rishi Kapoor, Paintal and Neetu Singh have lip-synched and danced to the tune of the song. Rajinder Nath and Asrani also appear in the video.
Cultural Influence
This song has a comic flavor to it. The song is good. The video is watchable for the hilarity. But, I am not happy with the costumes.
