Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. Basic Requirement: Degree: animal science, dairy science, poultry science; or a related discipline or field of animal science that included at least 30 semester hours in the basic biological and agricultural sciences, and 20 semester hours in animal science. For poultry scientist positions, at least 10 of the required 20 semester hours in animal science must have been in poultry science. OR Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in the basic biological and agricultural sciences, including a minimum of 20 semester hours in appropriate animal science subjects, as described in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. AND
In addition to meeting the basic requirements described above, applicants must also meet additional qualification requirements as stated below. At the GS-12:
Applicants must demonstrate at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service or possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or possess an equivalent combination of graduate level education and experience. Graduate education must be directly related to the work of the position and must have equipped applicants with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. The specialized experience requirements for the GS-12 level of this position are: Designed, conducted, and reported research to evaluate impacts of dietary manipulation on bird productivity or health; Completed projects that reduced the adverse effects antibiotic free diets on intestinal health/ecology and bird productivity; Presented research results on professional meetings, and published research findings in peer-reviewed journals. At the GS-13:
Applicants must demonstrate at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. The specialized experience requirements for the GS-13 level of this position are: Designed and conducted research in poultry nutrition, intestinal health/ecology, digestive physiology, and other related areas; Evaluation of novel ingredients’ impact on bird health and productivity; Used improved methods and technologies to characterize nutritional interactions with rearing environment and management strategies; Collected and analyzed research data; Interpreted results to stakeholders, and published research findings as primary author in peer-reviewed journals. At the GS-14:
Applicants must demonstrate at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. The specialized experience requirements for the GS-14 level of this position are: Leading a poultry nutrition research project; Primary author on publications for those that impact the advancement of the field of poultry science or are viewed as authoritative; Conceiving and formulating research ideas and methodologies that advance the poultry nutrition field of science or are cited by other scientists; Invited speaker to symposia; Experience communicating with stakeholder organizations and translating industry needs into researchable activities; Managing and balancing poultry nutrition research programs. At the GS-15:
Applicants must demonstrate at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is directly related to the position to be filled. The specialized experience requirements for the GS-15 level of this position are: Having strong publication records in poultry nutrition and related areas; Leading multidisciplinary teams to develop research project plans and/or to write research proposals; Planning research procedures and techniques and designing experiments and collecting data with other team members including from other agencies, organizations or commercial partners; Presenting scientific information to officials in government, industry, and universities, customers, partners, stakeholders, support personnel, and participating in organizing annually or bi-annually national and international professional conferences. To be considered for this position, you must submit a one-page abstract of your MS thesis and/or Ph.D. dissertation. Also, submit a list of names, addresses, and phone numbers of persons familiar with your stature, contributions, recognition; any honors or awards received; memberships in professional or honor societies; invitations to make presentations at scientific/technical meetings; scientific society office and committee assignments; presentations (other than invitation); and publications.
