Qualification Summary
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: General knowledge of the specified types of work involved with the various occupational trades persons assisted. Knowledge of safety and environmental rules and regulations concerning procedures, equipment, commonly used chemicals and basic safety is required. Must possess a welcoming manner and positive attitude; demonstrate effective communication skills; professionally interact with guests; answering guest questions concerning hotel facilities; and provide information about local attractions. Provide assistance in handling customer complaints, involving management as necessary. Must possess basic math and reading skills. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing in English. Ability to carry out assigned work in accordance with instructions and specifications in assisting journeyman level workers. Ability to use and maintain the basic tools and equipment pertinent to the various occupations. Knowledge of the basic materials utilized in the performance of the various repair and maintenance activities in conjunction with the journeyman trades persons. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The incumbent is required to do considerable standing, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, and climbing. Must have ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor as unassisted lifting, moving, and carrying of supplies and equipment weighing up to 45 pounds (100 pounds assisted) is required. Must be able to climb/descend stairs and ladders WORKING ENVIRONMENT The work involves normal risks or discomforts associated with plant operations, facility management, and/or mechanical systems. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors with potential exposure to extreme weather or temperature conditions. Occasional exposure to dusty or dirty conditions exists when visiting rooms or facilities undergoing repair, maintenance, or renovation. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS This position may be designated ALPHA personnel for inclement weather or in the interest of national security and may be required to report for work when other employees are excused. This position is subject to the possibility of workdays on weekends and holidays, as well as rotating shifts, often consisting of other than normal duty hours. The staff member may be recalled to duty and/or required to work overtime, including on an emergency basis. May be required to possess a valid state driver’s license, as travel to other facilities may be required within the normal scope of duties. In order to verify fitness for duty, a complete physical examination may be required. This position is subject to a favorable National Agency Check (NAC). The incumbent is expected to meet the requirements outlined in the Lodging Career Path Guide. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
