Jeet jayenge hum tu agar sang hai – Lata/Nitin – Lakshmi-Pyare – Nutan/Girish | Meri Jung (1985)

Coronavirus pandemic has taken huge proportions. A small microorganism is belittling the very existence of human beings. This is not a brave way to go. I was reminded of the song Jeet jayenge hum tu agar sang hai because this war has to be fought together. Here is the analysis of the song:

Movie – Meri Jung (1985)

Jeet jayenge hum tu agar sang hai was featured in the N N Sippy Films’ family drama Meri Jung (1985) meaning My War, directed by Subhash Ghai and produced by N N Sippy. The movie starred Anil Kapoor, Meenakshi Sheshadri, Nutan, Amrish Puri, Javed Jafrey (debut), A K Hangal, Iftekhar, Khushboo, Parikshit Sahni, etc.

This story is about the trials and tribulations experienced by a lower middle-class family of Arun Verma. Arun’s father (Girish Karnad), a music teacher, is hanged on false charges of murder. The little boy’s mother (Nutan) is mentally affected by the incident. Arun has a younger sister Komal and her responsibility falls on the 8-year-old’s shoulder. He is motivated by his father’s lawyer (A K Hangal) and the teachings of his parents including this song.

Song – Jeet jayenge hum tu agar sang hai

Anand Bakshi penned the lyrics and Lakshmi-Pyare composed the score of Jeet jayenge hum tu agar sang hai.

The gist of the song is, “We will win, if you are with me. Life is a war at every step.”

Video – Jeet jayenge hum tu agar sang hai

The video begins with Girish Karnad playing the piano. The little boy remembers the song. A female voice is heard and the shocked boy turns around. He remembers Nutan walking back home from the temple opposite their home. It is raining outside, now.

The video is interspersed with a flashback. During the flashback, we can understand that the pair playing the little boy’s parents’ roles are very close to each other. The kids perform the last rites of their father and are seen as having food like beggars.

It begins to rain very heavily and the kids have to take shelter inside large pipes. The kids earn their living by cleaning cars and temples. The boy studies hard at night. The boy becomes a thundering lawyer, Anil Kapoor and the girl is Khushboo, who is seen tying rakhi to him.

Anil Kapoor is a lawyer, who supports justice and has come up the hard way. The song, soon, peters out and the video ends there.

Lata Mangeshkar has sung for Nutan and Khushboo. Nitin Mukesh has sung for Girish Karnad. Anil Kapoor is also seen in the video with some other actors.

Cultural Influence

The song is highly inspirational and says that a war can only be won by coming together. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
