VA Policy.English Language Proficiency: MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Grade Determinations: GS-7 Lead MSA (a) Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. (b) Assignment. The Lead MSA serves as the Lead Medical Support Assistant (MSA) in the Centralized Call and Scheduling Center (CSC) of the Health Administration (HAS) Service Line. The primary responsibilities of the Lead MSA is a mixture of Leadership (75%) and Advanced MSA (25%) responsibilities. Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to: significant scope, administrative independence, complexity (difficulty) and range of variety as described in this standard at the specific grade level and is performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time; provides support for primary care, numerous specialties, and pharmacy interdisciplinary clinical care teams. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts (up to 15 pounds).
