Qualification Summary
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/24/2020. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element. The screen-out element for this position is the ‘Ability To Do The Work Of The Electronic Industrial Controls Technician Without More Than Normal Supervision’. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. ElectronicsEquipment Assembly, Installation, RepairTroubleshooting (Electronic Equipment)Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work) Requires a current Universal Certification in accordance with the 1990 Clean Air Act, for the purpose of recovering, reclaiming, and recycling refrigerants. Certificate must be from an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved agency. A copy of your certification is required at the time of application. If you fail to provide a copy of your certification, you will be disqualified.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work can be sedentary at times but is often located in tiring, awkward and uncomfortable positions which requires some physical exertion, such as periods of standing or recurring and considerable walking, stooping, bending, crouching, and climbing. Sometimes stands for long periods of time, bends, stoops, crawls under equipment and makes repair in tight spaces. Frequently lifts, handles, and carries parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally moves moderately heavy items with assistance or with mechanical devices, including objects weighing over 50 pounds. Incumbent must exert moderate to arduous physical effort involving walking, standing, bending, stooping, lifting, working overhead and crawling. Incumbent must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding and operate bucket truck. Incumbent must be able to lift loads of up to fifty (50) lbs. Frequently, work will be performed in cramped and awkward positions inside mechanical spaces or outside on roofs and grounds. At other times work is performed in an office setting, conference and meeting rooms or in direct patient care areas. Work performed is of a precise nature requiring prolonged concentration. Incumbent works at times under conditions of moderate stress and must be able to interact effectively with medical center patients, visitors and staff in a calm, analytical, professional manner. Working Conditions: The work involves regular and recurring moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines; with contagious diseases or irritant chemicals. For some positions the work may, on a regular and recurring basis, require working outdoors, in other such environments with extreme temperatures, and/or exposure to adverse weather conditions. Employees are required to use protective clothing or gear such as hard hats, masks, gowns, earplugs, coats, boots, googles, gloves, or shields to moderate risks, or to follow procedures for minimizing risk. Physical agility and dexterity are required while working on and around equipment. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, and respirators. Incumbent will sometimes be required to work in environments where the hazards of asbestos, burns, exposure to chemicals, radiation, and contagious diseases exist and will be exposed to various elements of weather when working outside. Incumbent must know and follow procedures for working in areas of grease, dust, noise and fumes, exposure to extreme hot and cold weather conditions and areas of infectious fluids, radiation, dirt, dust and asbestos. The technician must use all appropriate safety devices, tools, clothing, and other personal protective equipment to protect self, other staff, patients and visitors at all times.
